Unit 7 discusses teaching new language. It goes into detail on how the ESA methodology can be applied to teaching three parts of a language: vocabulary, grammar, and functions.
It covers different activities that can be utilized for teaching each of the three parts. It highlights an example using the straight-arrow method to teach lower level students vocabulary. I have to agree with this approach, as the other two methods could potentially make this more challenging for students to grasp new vocabulary.
Additionally, it gives an example using the patchwork method to teach mid level students grammar. I would have thought the boomerang method could work just as well in this instance, but being that I am not an expert in this field I will admit that the patchwork method has its advantages.
Finally, the boomerang method is shown for teaching language functions. The unit does however mention that the patchwork method could also be used, which is what I was originally thinking. This unit is quite useful; it gives lots of examples you can use as a model to make your own lesson plans.
