With this unit I am beginning to fully appreciate the true divergence between what I know and am comfortable teaching in English Composition to native English speakers, and what I will need to become more comfortable teaching with for my future ESL students. For being the shortest unit so far, it certainly took me the longest to navigate and, as I came to realize about halfway through, it is largely because I was depending very heavily on what "sounded right" instead of processing the rules that make what "sounds right" actually true. In order to be able to teach ESL students I will have to not only know what sounds right, but also why, what the general rules are, AND be able to provide examples. I appreciate that so many great examples, and how to activate those examples, were given throughout the unit. It was actually the activation examples that further my own understanding and helped me to formulate idea of how I would attempt to teach this in my own classroom.
