This unit was a lot of foundational grammar concepts, most of which I was already familiar with, but it was nice to get the refresher. For the new things (or those things I had apparently forgotten about) it was nice to learn something new. Nouns are things that one describes with adjectives and talks about using a verb which is modified by an adverb. Articles can be definite or indefinite, depending on if one is talking about a countable or uncountable noun, where the presence or absence of the is a good indicator of what you are looking at. Gerunds are essentially verbs being used as the noun/subject of a sentence and always have an -ing ending. Prepositions show the relationship of the noun/pronoun to other parts of the sentence, while conjunction merely join bits of the sentence together. Pronouns replace more precise nouns, especially when they've already been stated and don't need stating again. It seems that a lot of things surrounding pronouns cause a lot of trouble for students (and sometimes teachers) prepositions are just all around difficult because of a lack of standard (and a preposition can show the relationship of a pronoun or noun) while possessive pronouns can cause problems as well. It's really nice to have that information about what things tend to trip people up, so that I can make sure I understand them thoroughly enough to teach them later on as well as being conscious of where I might need to put some extra effort to help my future students.
