This unit covers the productive skills of a learner: speaking and writing. There are many different variables to consider when teaching these two productive skills. Pronunciation is important to a speaker, as is fluency. Grammar, penmanship, and punctuation are all important aspects of writing. Writing is more unforgiving in certain aspects, a mistake or misinterpretation can solved easily when speaking but if the writer is unclear it can cause longer lasting confusion.
Fluency is important as you want the student to be able to speak without having to constantly stop and think about the language, some portions of the lesson (activate stage) focuses more on fluency. Accuracy and correct pronunciation is more of a concern in the study stage as you want to ensure students are learning properly.
