This unit briefly looks at a range of teaching methodologies, introduces the Engage-Study-Activate teaching method, explains what the teacher aims to achieve at each stage of this method, shows how the method can be adapted for different lesson layouts based upon the topic being taught and the student level, provides examples of activities for each stage and (in some cases) the level it may best suit, explains the principles of student correction, the preferred way of doing this and how to annotate written work with correction markings. I have learnt a lot from this unit, particularly in regards to the kinds of activities that one can employ for the different ESA stages, and hope to make good use of these in my future lessons. It was interesting to be given a brief overview of various teaching methods and what positive and negative aspects they have. The error correction section covered aspects that I have already been trying to apply in my teaching - in particular, focusing on positive feedback and only correcting mistakes that either appear ingrained or which are central to the lesson's topic - but was nevertheless helpful to review and provided me with an efficient way to correct written work which focuses on the student finding mistakes/errors themselves.
