I agree with the unit when it says that course books are a highly debated conversation. There are many teachers who prefer to create their own plan with their own style. However, I believe that course books provide new teachers with a sense of confidence and comfortability until they become aware of their individual teaching style and gain more experience. I personally feel most comfortable having a guide to follow while inputing my own creative materials through out.
I think that creative materials are a good way to show that the teacher is also interested and invested in what the student is learning. I think it can allow the teacher to test out materials on themselves and consider how they would feel if they were learning this way. They can ask themselves questions such as, "Is this easy to understand, but also challenging enough to grow and learn?"
When it comes to authentic materials I believe these are the most motivating as the unit states. When I study a second language, I always feel the most fulfilled when I am able to understand something from an every day material such as a menu or street sign.
