Unit 12 covers the topic of teaching productive skills, which are speaking and writing. With these two skills we need to consider two factors, accuracy and fluency. Both are equally important and require the same level of attention.
During the study phase we focus on accuracy rather than fluency. Things like handwriting, spelling, and punctuation are addressed during this phase. This phase is when we try to correct student faults, because the point of this phase is accuracy.
When in the activate phase we focus on fluency over accuracy. Things like having correct pronunciation, flow when speaking, and the ability to convey information in an understandable manner are addressed during this phase. This phase is when we abstain from correcting student faults, as the focus of this activity is fluency.
