Although I instinctively know what tenses to use because English is my native language, I was not aware of the complexity of tense system. I can certainly see how a EFL learner would struggle. I think the best way to teach the present tenses would be to focus on them one at a time, and when the students are reasonably confident in that tense, move on to the next, building on their knowledge. I did appreciate how the text listed the typical usages for each tense. This is something that I never considered before, and while I'm sure I could come up with many examples for each tense, I don't think I could have explained why that particular tense is used in that instance.
