I found this unit to be full of great information for managing a classroom. Using the best methods, in the right situations, promotes a positive learning environment. Overall, what I took away from this unit was that it is important to be aware of behaviors in the classroom. This goes for both teacher and student. As a teacher, one needs to be aware of how their actions impact the learning. This relates to when the teacher sits, speaks, and organizes the class. I think that what I learned most from this unit was to understand that certain methods work better in specific circumstances. An example of this is knowing when/how to group students. I found it interesting to learn the pros and cons to different forms of groups. A whole-class group might work best to hold the attention of the whole class for a concept, but lacks effectiveness when some students fail to participate. Pairwork increases the talk time for students and their ability to learn from each other, but can become problematic in terms of noise and clashing personalities. Overall, I feel that this unit highlighted the importance of effective classroom organization.
