This unit discussed the characteristics of both teachers and learners including a breakdown of the various learner levels. It was helpful to think about the various aspects of teaching according to the distinct roles a teacher must utilize. I think the most important emphasis was the focus on how the teacher must direct everything they do toward the motivation and benefit of the learner. This is highlighted in how they assess. It should be done in a way that doesn't demean or discourage the learner. It is also highlighted in the balance that must be maintained between lessons and activities. The teacher must be free to monitor and tutor students when necessary. As for the learner, the characteristic of being willing to ask questions is vital. It has been my experience that those who ask questions make great progress in their understanding of English.
