This unit clearly deals with the role of an effective teacher and the types of Learners. Teaching and motivation coexist. A motivated student is likely to achieve success with less effort. In order to motivate students, the teacher has to be motivated. Relying on knowledge will only demotivate students. So a teacher needs to be active, creative, participating, motivated and resourceful. Understanding the Learners, their age, their background, and their culture is another factor which builds rapport between students and teachers. While reading I could situate myself in some of my classes where I was badly lacking in withdrawing. Though I allow my students to ask questions at any point of time, I feel I always dominated their views. Likewise, some of the points dealt in The Role of the Teacher are eye-opener for me. Ultimately, I am doing this course not for my certificate but for my life and career. Overall, I would say I had a good start of the TEFL course.
