Unit 16: Conditionals and the Reported speech were outlined. There are 5 conditionals with different forms and usages. Zero conditional refers to actions and facts that are irrefutable. First conditional uses real situations in the future that are possible once the condition has been satisfied. Second conditional communicates a present or future unreal or hypothetical situation that presently isn't true or it unlikely. Third conditional is even more unlikely than the 2nd; hypothetical past action and consequence or result that is impossible. The final is a mixed conditional between the 3rd and 2nd which is hypothetical past actions and hypothetical present consequences. Students have trouble distinguishing they different conditionals. Direct speech is quoted speech and indirect speech is reported to a 3rd party. Changing between the two requires changes in tenses, pronouns, and time expressions.
