In this unit both conditionals and indirect speech are examined.
Firstly the conditionals are presented in all their forms. An explanation on how to form and use them is followed by common mistakes from learners, which often tend to use the wrong tense to form conditionals. Then suggestions and teaching ideas are listed.
In the second section of the unit reported speech is explained. This section explain very carefully how to apply indirect speech to a direct speech and analyzes all the critical areas of this operation, such as the change of tense depending on the reporting verb (asked, said etc..). Time expressions (ie. tomorrow becomes the day after) are also critical for the learners, who might find them confusing. With this topic it is really necessary to go through it very slowly and carefully.
