English pronunciation poses several problems, especially when spelling comes into play. But these problems can be tackled by utilizing the universal phonemic alphabet (which details how every sound in the English language should be pronounced) in tandem with a basic knowledge of intonation, stress, and rhythm (which give the listener important context cues). Without even realizing it, English speakers use certain intonations (pitches used when saying a sentence) and stresses (emphasis on a certain word or syllable) that, although they are not entirely uniform, can be taught using different guess-and-check and drilling techniques to help students get accustomed to hearing the cadence of English speaking.
