Lesson plans form the backbone of a teacher's goals and objectives for his or her students. It is not a script, but rather an outline of the content to be presented, how it will be approached, and what activities will be done to guide both the teacher and the student(s) towards the end goal. In hind sight, it is similar to a play book--a layout of what will proceed but also lists some drawbacks of what both parties may run into along the way. At the end of the lesson, the teacher should refer back to the lesson plan to locate progress in the classroom and assess any changes that may need to be made. The teacher should not always feel compelled to stick to one structured plan, but rather be flexible in making adjustments if the situation arises.
