In this unit, i have learnt the various methodology of teaching English language and these methods include; Task based learning, The silent way, Lexical approach, Community language learning, Communicative language teaching, Grammar-translation, Audio-lingualism, Suggestopaedia and Presentation practice and production. Generally, it is difficult to decide which method is best as the effectiveness of any method depends on individual circumstances, teacher's personality, culture of the students and the student's needs. However, Jeremy Harmer's Engage, Study and Activate (ESA) method have shown to be the most effective and most logical of all methodologies. Here, the teacher arouses the students' interest using; games, interesting pictures and stories before focusing on teaching the language and how it is constructed. Thereafter the students are encouraged to use the language they just learnt as freely and communicatively as possible. The teacher should also have good knowledge about correction techniques to be able to carry out corrections effectively.
