This unit focused on methodology. A brief review of some of the most common language teaching methods was outlined. This was followed by the introduction of the ESA (Engage, Study, Activate)method by Jeremy Harmer. This was followed by elicitation techniques and examples of activities which could be used in each section of the ESA method. The unit ended with general advice about conducting an ESA lesson as well as feedback and correction techniques. I appreciated all the ideas which were given in this lesson. There are several activities I plan on incorporating into the English conversation class I teach such as the "sevens" activity and the communication games. Overall, I appreciate the overview of the methods because it is impossible to know the first language of every English learner. So, while I prefer the translation method, and it is easy and useful for my Spanish speakers, I must use a combination of the other methods for the other learners. This has been a great course so far.
