Otsego, New York TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit covered the simple past, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous tenses. The tenses were defined and a few activities were given that would help students learn how to use the various tenses. After reviewing this lesson I realized that the present perfect is probably the most difficult tense to teach to learners whose first language does not have the present perfect. I appreciate the lesson's description of the past perfect as past actions viewed from the past. I had not thought of this before. In all of the example sentences of that section a past simple verb is used in conjunction with the past perfect. I also appreciated the fact that the lesson pointed out some similarities across the tenses. Whenever we can reduce things to a common denominator, it makes learning a little easier. The examples of this in the lesson was noting that the "be" verb plus the "ing" is used in all the continuous tenses, and the "have" verb is used in all the perfect tenses. This is another good lesson.
