Unit 1: Teachers and Learners addressed many introductory topics. A sign of a good teacher is that they are fair, have knowledge of the subject and motivate students to learn. Teachers have many roles that they need to know when to use to guide the students in learning. A teacher needs to care more about the learning of the students than their own love for teaching.
A good teacher needs to know their students well including the age, culture, language level, and motivation factors. There are three young learner age categories as well as adult learners. Each age group has different motivations, experiences, and behaviors which bring different things to the table, so a teacher must know their student's category well. Good learners are willing to listen to the language, desire to experiment with it, ask questions, thing through language methods, accept correction, and a desire and motivation to learn.
There are 5 or 6 language levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Teach according to the level and not below or above the students or they will loose motivation to learn. Generally a good teacher has good students so teachers must ensure lessons are enjoyable, interesting, varied and useful.
