Past tenses include,
1. Past simple - used for actions completed at a definite point in time.
a. Form
* affirmative (subject + base form) e.g he danced
* negative (subject + did not or didn't + base form) e.g he did not dance.

2. Past continuous - used for interrupted past action
a. Form
* affirmative (subject + was/were + verb + ing) e.g he was dancing
* negative (subject + was/were + not + verb + ing) e.g he was not dancing.
* question (was/were + subject + verb + ing) e.g was he dancing?

* detective game - where were you at 10pm?
* story telling
3. Past perfect - used for actions that occurred before another action in the past.
a. Form
* affirmative ( subject + had + past participle)
* negative (subject + had + not + past participle)
* question (had + subject + past participle)

* students see a story and retell it backwards starting from the end and describing what had happened before.
4.Past perfect continuous used to talk about a longer action that had been going on up to the time we were thinking
a. Form
* affirmative ( subject + had + been + verb + ing}

* question ( had + subject + been + verb + ing)
