A good teacher is one whose characteristics includes the ability to motivate students, being kind and patient, loves teaching, is lively and entertaining, amongst others.
A good learner is one who is willing and motivated to learn by being actively involved in the learning process.
The 6 stages in learning the English language includes beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced. A teacher should be able to identify each stage and interact with the learner appropriately.
A teacher plays different roles in a class some of which are managing a class, organizing the class for activities, prompting students by gently encouraging them when they run out of ideas or seem stuck while being careful not to hijack the lesson or make him/herself the center of it.
Some of the reasons a learner may be interested in learning the English language include; for future career prospects, for travelling purposes, to interact with colleagues and partners, amongst others.
From this unit, I have learned that a good student is a result of a good teacher. A teacher should be selfless, be more student focussed than self and ensure a conducive atmosphere for the learner to successfully learn the English language.
