I have been a VET teacher at a school in Melbourne for over three years and am very familiar with lesson planning. It is incredibly important, particularly when you are just starting out or intend to deliver properly sequenced lessons. In summary a lesson plan helps to narrow and focus the objective of the lesson (both from a teaching and learning perspective); gives you something to refer to during the lesson and as such, gives you confidence and keeps you on track; provides a written record of the learning objectives and tasks; aids in the sequencing of lessons (as stated above); and makes it easier to evaluate the lesson and your own teaching practice.
