In this lesson we learn how to teach the receptive skills reading and listening. It is important that we get our students engaged in reading by asking and answering questions, having them predict what will happen next, and allow them the space to read and understand without knowing each and every word. Carefully selecting texts is important as we want to make sure the text we choose is geared towards the level of the students we are teaching. They should be learning some new words in the text but also be able to understand the main idea of the text at hand. As teachers we want to create interest and get students interested. Giving students background information and having them discuss the topic will allow for this engagement in the topic. This unit goes over lessons and activities in each stage so that we can make sure students are using their receptive skills.
