This unit introduces rules of pronunciation and phonology, it starts by defining both pronunciation and phonology and showing the intonation with its different features (Rise/Fall). Then, the unit gives some techniques for indicating and teaching intonation. Later on, the unit covers a very important aspect in pronunciation which is the stress and where to put it also results of lack of stress. After that, there is a presentation of the phonemic alphabet and phonemic symbols also the unit shows the articulation and the manner of articulation. At the end, the unit provides teaching techniques of pronunciation of individual sounds and shows when to teach pronunciation.
First of all, this unit is a very useful one and contains new information for me that I didn’t used to understand before. I learnt how to make stress in different kinds of words containing different numbers of syllables also I learnt the international phonetic alphabet which is very crucial in teaching English, in the beginning it was not very easy to read the words but one I read one or two sentences things became easier than before so I could understand their meanings. Apart from that, I learnt the intonation system in different kind of sentences, the articulation and some useful, easy and fun activities to teach pronunciation to students.
