In this unit we look into how to best teach productive skills. These skills are for communication in speaking and writing. We learn when activities are controlled by the teacher and when the students should be doing the speaking. We learn the specific activities in controlled activities, guided activities, and creative communication. We learn the differences in these activities and when students should be working on fluency and when they should be working more on accuracy. We see that accuracy and fluency both are of great importance. We learn great activities to encourage students to speak more including having students participate in pair work, group work, speaking activities purposeful, changing the classroom dynamics, etc. We also learn about students writing skills in handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing. We learn how to teach these skills in the engage, study, and activate stage.
