This unit is focused on the receptive skills. The receptive skills of language learners are reading and listening. The reasons and motives for reading and listening can be categorized into two areas. These are, for a purpose and for entertainment. This unit also covers the five skills used when reading and listening. These are as follow; predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context. There are a number of potential problems that may arise when teaching and learning receptive skills, however two way to approach these problems are by pre-teaching vocabulary and careful selection of contexts.
I have learnt that both reading and listening are equally important in language learning in language learning.
