This unit focuses on three different ways of evaluating students’ levels and progress as well as some common external exams that students might have for other purpose. Tutorials, Student evaluations and tests are all used to assess student’s language level. The tests include the placement test or diagnostic test that are normally held at the beginning of the course to place the students into the correct class according to their language levels, the progress test in the between of the course in order to gauge the learning progress of students’ knowledge points, the practice test which is designed for students that are required to attend external examination and the achievement test that might take at the end of the course to assess students’ overall performance in a comprehensive way. This unit also lists a few general external examinations to be taken by most non- native speaker of English for different testing purposes. Reading through this section, I have a better understanding of evaluation tools that can work as guidance in our future teaching careers.
