In this unit I learnt why do teachers evaluate students English, because I need to know the levels and progress of the students. And there are three ways to assess their language level: tutorial, evaluation by the students and tests. Placement tests are designed to test new students into correct class; diagnostic tests are designed to test the beginners to see what they already know and help the teacher to prepare lessons; progress test should be used periodically and include a balance of four skills( reading, writing, speaking and listening); achievement tests are usually taken at the end of the school year.
