Unit 7 is about teaching new language. Key aspects considered include grammar, vocabulary and language functions. The connection between grammar and vocabulary is discussed and explored. With respect to choosing vocabulary, appropriacy to students and tasks are identified as key priorities. Grammatical structures are explored and examples given. This is followed by consideration of language functions and the role they play in learning English. Valuable learning for me from this unit has been the criteria used for selecting the vocabulary to be taught to students. In particular, the importance of appropriacy as opposed to teaching random words that might 'seem' useful.
