This unit is teaching us about what receptive skills are and how they are important for understanding a language. Listening and reading can open many doors of understanding. While reading gives the students a chance to think about the content, listening allows the students to react with their knowledge. However, both can be tricky so content is very important, whether it is choosing an appropriate expert for a class or understanding the students pre-existing knowledge and likes. We need to use their known information to help guide our lessons. Also, I learned that we should not only try to use non-authentic materials but we should also attempt to use authentic materials for the student’s confidence. I think that is important because confidence is needed especially when one needs to progress in a language.
