West Deptford, New Mexico TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
These two videos were about the mistakes teachers can make during a lesson. During the first lesson the teacher made a couple of mistakes. Firstly, he causes confusion amongst the students by jumping around from one sentence to another. It is not clear what he wants the students to do. He also only uses one student's name throughout the lesson. Almost nothing is written on the board. The game that they have to play is confusing and the teacher does not keep score or explain rules properly. He also favors one side of the class more and grants them more points because 'he likes them more'. After the game he calls the students that lost the game 'losers'. This is not good. After the lesson he greets them very abruptly and impersonally and walks out. It was clear that students were not encouraged or that they learnt very much in the lesson. During the second video the teacher was friendlier. He also made a point of getting to know their names and calling on different students for answers. He explained better and used appropriate gestures as well as wrote down complete sentences on the board. After they had completed the worksheet, he wrote the answers on the board which he did not do during the first lesson. This helped them to correct their own mistakes. The students understood and enjoyed the game. It was clear that they had learn something. At the end of the lesson the teacher greeted the class heartily and properly.
