This unit emphasizes the importance of grammar and how it is used every day both consciously and unconsciously. It’s important to understand grammar in order to teach it effectively. For example, if you were to teach comparative adjectives, your students would have a hard time distinguishing when to use “-est” vs “more something than.” Being the teacher and understanding that grammar point of the two syllable rule, makes it easier to teach them and squashes confusion before it starts. This is important because as a native speaker, I was unaware that such a rule existed and I would’ve have struggled trying to help my students understand something that I didn’t properly understand.
