Unit 13 is about teaching pronunciation and phonology. The teaching of pronunciation is generally not done well by English teachers, due to a lack of knowledge and confidence in doing so. When teaching does take place, it often focuses on individual sounds rather than more complex combinations of sounds. Pronunciation teaching gives life to learning as it brings feelings and different responses to situations into the context of the language. Phonology is related to physical properties of sounds. Phonology as a term is interchangeable with phonetics. Key aspects considered in relation to phonology are stress, rhythm and intonation. Key learning for me from this unit is how little I know about phonology and the phonetic structure of words. Doing the tasks and the specific questions in the test related to phonetic structure, was very challenging and also very interesting. I need to do further study in this aspect.
