This unit is about teaching new language. There are four things that students have to be able to do with a new language : be exposed to it; understand its meaning; understand how it is constructed and be able to practice and produce it. Teaching a new language has to cover three aspects namely: vocabulary, language structure and language functions. There is not a general consensus about which words to teach students. This is usually determined by the textbooks and syllabus. When introducing grammatical structures it is important for the students to know the meaning, usage,forms and patterns as well as the spoken and written forms of language. Teaching language functions include areas such as inviting, refusing, agreeing and disagreeing etc. In all these aspects there are various methods of teaching the new language.
