This unit provides a general overview of the nature, character and qualities of teachers and learners. The different roles of the teacher are discussed as well as the different levels of the learner. Consideration is also given to learner motivation. I found the section on learner motivation of particular interest as this is fundamental to what is happening in the classroom and progress that will be made. The teacher needs to know the learners, why they are there and what they want from the class. If the teacher is unable to engage with and inspire the learners, the nature and quality of student learning and progress will be directly affected.
