In this unit i've learnt that when teaching productive skills in the study stage you would use accuracy activities which are concentrated on producing correct language, and in the activate stage of a lesson you would want to use fluency activities which are more concentrated on allowing the students to experiment and be creative with the language. When doing speaking activities in the lesson you can choose more controlled activities such drilling or prompting, or you can choose to guide the students with model dialogues or guided role plays, or with more creative communication activities you can do free role play, discussions/debates or simulations. It is important to encourage interaction with in the class, however some students may seem reluctant to speak because of a fear of making mistakes and a lack of confidence, or because of peer intimidation or a bad previous learning experience. These matters should be handled delicately and patiently as students are gently encouraged to work together in pairs or in groups and given plenty of guided practice and allow students time to think about what they are going to say. When teaching writing skills you should help the students learn the different layouts of writing they need to be exposed to and practice many different styles, after students have completed a piece of work you should get them to check it themselves for things like grammar, punctuation and spelling. Creative writing tasks can include stories dialogues or poetry, putting the students in groups can be helpful.
