Chester, New Mexico TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
In this unit I learnt that not only do students have certain specific language levels (i.e. CEFR) but also teachers can take on different roles in a classroom, some of which I had not really thought about before. For example the role of Facilitator whereby the teacher withdraws from certain activities was interesting to me as I haven't really used this type of approach before.I also learnt that it is important to know which role to use and when. There are specific times when one should prompt or intervene and others when it is best to let the students talk, organize and speak themselves. Although I already had some idea as to the different levels of language learners these were explained in a clear manner and it was good to recap the different CEFR levels too (A1-C2). The cultural aspect was also interesting: how in Asia some approaches to teaching may be frowned upon as they are considered "rowdy" was new to me. Overall, the relationship between a teacher and a learner is important for the success of the teaching. I hope to have the qualities of a "good teacher" such as: motivating students, being enthusiastic, kind and also a good listener.
