In this Unit i have learnt that careful selection of topics and texts is very important because if the student is interested in the subject you are teaching then they are more likely to be receptive to the information you are trying to convey. i have also learnt that if the teacher can get the students motivated and engaged in the task, they are more to read and listen with enthusiasm. i have learnt that pre-teaching vocabulary and structures before the students read or listen can be helpful with difficult or unknown language or structures, but this should just be used for key words or sentences as being able to understand texts without knowing every word is a skill that should be encouraged. and finally i have learnt that to have a successful receptive skill lesson you must choose interesting material that motivates the students and keep the material varied from lesson to lesson, try to build interest in the topic before commencing with reading or listening and pre-teach complex vocabulary or structures if needed.
