Unit five focused on classroom management. Instructors need to be aware of many things that are happening when interacting with their students. For example, how the use of eye contact can help with classroom management by building rapport with students and allowing students to know when you are expecting a response from them. Other considerations include the use of gesturing, utilizing student names, and effective use of one's voice. Considerations of how a teacher can vary the grouping arrangemets for students. The seating arrangement of a class can influence the ease of the grouping of students. Each type of activity used in a lesson can influence the amount of teacher and student talking time. Establishing rapport between instructor and students is imperative. The unit ends with considerations for the teacher in order to maintain discipline. For example, if an instructor makes threats for disruptive behaviors in class and doesn't follow through, then students will learn that they can get away with the disruptive behaviors, which could increase disruly behaviors.
