Unit 9 covers the topic of lesson planning. There is no specific way in which to write a lesson plan. Lesson plans can vary from teacher to teacher. Lesson plans are an aid to planning. It is also a working document that has to be kept flexible but always keeping the goal in mind. It also functions as an record of what the class has covered and which materials have been used. Lesson plans should be simple. Lesson plans will help teachers to create a smooth flow; to anticipate problems and to be well-prepared. Teachers need to be aware of the following when preparing and presenting lessons: the level of the language of learners; the seating plan; time each activity will take; whether all materials needed are available and working; that the board is clean etc. After a lesson has been presented it is important to write down if modifications were necessary as well as what should be modified in future; which parts of the lesson worked well etc. Being well prepared will give a teacher more confidence.
