Newfield, New Jersey TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This lesson covered theories, methods, and techniques for teaching successful lessons to students. This is an important topic because it covers strategies for the students to learn and discover as much as possible. The big idea behind this unit was ESA - Engage, Study and Activate. Engaging the students brings their attention and focus on the lesson and helps motivate them to learn further. This stage might include different memory games, partner share, pictionary, or word linking. The study phase is where the student is able to apply some of what they might have learned and break down more specifics to the subject such as, spelling, pronunciation, meaning, analysis, elicitations, and word order. This could be applied using work sheets, hangman, word searches, of maybe gap-fill techniques. Lastly, there is the activate stage. This stage is when the student applies their knowledge in a role play, survey, debate, or other communication games. In addition, this unit emphasized the importance of correction and praise. It is more important to praise a student than to correct them. However, having a balance of the two can be helpful for the student to learn, discover, correct themselves, or allow the correction to be a group activity. There is no right way to teaching a lesson plan, but there are techniques to make it successful. For example, keep students engaged, motivated, practice English, and feel confident in their learning abilities.
