Unit four describes and exemplifies present tenses. During this unit, we look at four different tenses, their form, usages, typical students errors and mistakes, and ideas for how to teach them. The four tenses we look at are, Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, and Present Perfect Continuous. With each tense, we are given the idea of the tense, how to use it, mistakes, and ways to learn. For example, with the Present Perfect Continuous, relates to past activities to the present. It implies the activity will continue into the future. It's affirmative form is (subject plus auxilery verb 'have' plus verb plus 'ing'). It's negative is the same, but adding 'not', and its question form is (auxilery verb plus 'have' plus even plus verb plus 'ing'). Some example usages with this tense include, "I've been cycling for the last five years". This emplies that I am most likely cycling still. Some common errors include, "I've been knowning her for six months". Ways teachers can help students learn this tense could be through students surveying the class finding out who has done something the longest.
