This unit included two videos showing a teacher interacting with his class. The first video showed him being brusque toward the students, saying things like "You said it wrong," and "You've done nothing," as well as saying "No," when a student got an answer wrong. His attitude in the first video created a more tense and uncomfortable reaction from his students. Also, the teacher was more disorganized in the first lesson and seemed pressed for time, frequently hurrying the students along or skipping instructions in favour of getting to the activity. However, in the second video, the teacher sets a welcoming tone right away by introducing himself, asking the students' names, and saying, "Nice to meet you." He seems more positive and patient, taking time to laugh with his students and create a more relaxed atmosphere. When students were struggling to answer, he would mime a hint to guide them toward the answer. This unit was very helpful for me, and a strong reminder of how a teacher's attitude can have a profound effect on classroom atmosphere.
