This unit covers the productive skills; speaking and writing. It discusses key topics within these skills as well as example class lessons and games. Speaking centers around the two key aspects of fluency and accuracy. Different activities are then discussed based around these aspects; more teacher controlled activities for accuracy (drilling, prompted questions) and more creative activities for fluency (role-plays, debates). This breakdown is important as it provides the teacher with an overarching goal for any given speaking activity. Writing is then discussed, along with tips surrounding several key areas; handwriting, spelling, layout and formatting. I do feel that writing is one of the more difficult subjects to teach. The time needed for students to formulate ideas, write them, and then for the teacher to provide feedback is greatly extended compared to speaking. The tips and game suggestions, I feel, will go a long way in making writing more enjoyable for students.
