Similar to the present tense unit, I found this unit to be more challenging. As a native english speaker, I know how to put these kinds of sentences together, however, it is much harder to break them down into their tenses. In this unit, I was able to learn more about the various tenses, and began to refresh my knowledge of the differences. The past simple tense is composed when an action is completed at a definite time in the past. Past continuous is used for interrupted past actions. For this tense you have the subject with was/were (can also use not) and a verb ending in -ing. Past perfect is used when an action occurred in the past before other actions in the past. This tense uses the subject had or had not and the past participle. Finally, past perfect continuous is used when talking about longer actions in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about. With this tense we do not know if the action continued after that point. This tense using the subject had been or had not been and a verb with -ing. While I am still a little unsure of some of these tenses, I feel like I have a better understanding of how to break the sentences down compared to my knowledge before this unit.
