Unit 1 was an introduction to the various aspects of both teachers and learners. Qualities such as kindness, patience, enthusiasm, and sensitivity were listed as key to 'good' teaching . The roles of a teacher included: manager, organizer, observer/assessor, prompter, modeler/resource, and participant. According to this unit, 'good' learners are willing to listen, experiment, ask questions, accept correction, and have desire as well. In addition, differences between adult and young learners were shown along with general language ability levels and the Common European Framework. Finally, the unit briefly touched on the many reasons people study English. Personally, this unit served as a fine primer for the lessons which follow.
