This unit covered class management; the techniques and strategies for communicating with students, building rapport, and maintaining order and discipline. It stressed the importance of appropriate use of eye contact, gestures and voice to maintain the attention of students, increase their talk time and communicate effectively. It also covered topics like the arrangement of seating, group sizes for activities, and the pros and cons of the variations of each. Regarding discipline, the unit emphasized maintaining order while following the schools code of conduct and avoiding reactions that would disrupt the class or make students uncomfortable. Priority should be given to establishing rapport and respect and avoiding problems before they start.
