Conditionals are a common aspect of English speaking. There are five main conditional forms, namely zero conditional, first conditional, second conditional, third conditional and mixed conditional. There are a number of methods that the teacher can use to teach these conditionals, including split sentences, completing the conditional and chain conditionals. Reported speech is expressed differently than direct speech. In general, the present of direct speech becomes the past in reported speech. This is often referred to as backshifting.
