Speaking and writing are considered productive skills. Writing is somewhat more difficult to teach than speaking, in part because so little class time is devoted to teaching students how to write. Students have time to think when they are writing, but with speaking you have to produce on the spot. Fluency and accuracy are equally important and both should be given emphasis at different times during the lesson.
