In this unit, my takeaways are that it is important to assess myself as a teacher/instructor. It is vital to be passionate about teaching the language but to be more passionate about how my students learning and progress. There are different stages of learning, and each stage has its own characteristics that come with it. Early stage ESL teaching is more visual and is not yet at the point of asking many grammar questions. Learners who are adults tend to have a greater attention span than young learners. Adults also tend to be motivated to be in the classroom because they made the decision to be present; while children may not have made that decision for themselves. As a result, there may be more behavioral issues in their case. There are many reasons why adults want to learn English. Some of those reasons include job opportunities, the love of the language, wanting to be able to communicate while traveling and to live in the United States.
